In orangutans, motherhood is not an instinctive behaviour, but a learned one, so socialisation is fundamental from an early age, in order to be able to apply what they have learned in the future. That is why it is very important that the orangutans spend as much time as possible with their family, which can last until they are 8 years old, when they reach sexual maturity.
