Rembrandt's Tulips in Purple

Rembrandt's Tulips in Purple
by Marjan Van Herpen

Tulips were highly valued in the 17th century and traded for extreme prices. During 'Tulip Mania', around 1637, a single bulb could cost as much as a canal house in the Netherlands. Rare striped varieties were especially prized. Carefully composed, this piece is inspired by Old Masters.
