Like a lot of people, I started taking photos whilst on an overseas trip. After living in Lancaster England for a few months in 2013, I decided that it was much more fun riding a bicycle around places you’ve never seen before and taking photos rather than sitting at a desk. I retired and have been pursuing photography as my main hobby ever since. I moved to Adelaide four years ago and joined the Port Adelaide Camera Club. Camera clubs are great for meeting like-minded people, getting your photography critiqued, and learning new skills. My still life photography interest came about after spending four weeks in isolation at home during COVID where I setup up a space in my shed and signed up for an online video course. I’m trying to keep up with technological changes and I upgrade my camera gear and editing software accordingly. I don’t necessarily need to visit exotic locations to take photos. Some of my favourite places to visit are gardens where I test myself by trying to find as many engaging subjects as possible. I find it hard to stick to one photographic genre - nature, landscapes, aerial, still life, street, fine art, architecture. I try to show things differently and to make images that other people find interesting and beautiful. Really for me photography is about getting out with my camera and seeing what I can see.
