Country: Netherlands 🇳🇱
My name is Carolien van Schie.
As a Fine-Art photographer I have a predilection for still lifes and portraits.
Characteristic for my photographs is the lighting, the so-called Rembrandt light. I love this atmospheric and special light. In addition, I always use warm and natural colors for my photographs to create a painterly effect.
The things I use for my pictures I look for mainly in thrift stores and on brocante markets. The older and more lived-in they look, the better!
I usually paint the backgrounds for my photos myself. That way I can play with colors and textures to achieve the desired effect.
And to give my still lifes just a little extra I often choose to add a living animal. Then of course it is no longer a real still life, but for me it makes the picture just that little bit more exciting.
The portraits I make differ from a standard portrait.
By making use of light, clothing and color, an 'ordinary' portrait changes into a picturesque photo with its own atmosphere and feeling.
