Carolyn Mara is an unapologetically weird creative that loves to use her artistic creations as a form of self expression. She’s always been a big believer in the idea that creative self expression should be used as an emotional outlet and wants you—the people viewing her art and reading her writing—to understand that channeling your emotions into an artistic medium can be both rewarding and rejuvenating. Whenever she is creating, writing, or posting content on social media, she likes to incorporate the vulnerability of her emotional states and mix it with her weird creativity so she can leave you with a positive message about the power of creativity.
Carolyn was born and raised in Houston, Texas in a very traditional Italian family of immigrants, and now lives in Miami, Florida with her family. She began her artistic journey during her years at the Sacred Heart school in Houston, attended Southern Methodist University and went on to complete her Masters of Fine Art in photography, video and related media from the School of Visual Arts in New York City in 2006.
Carolyn’s work has been exhibited in multiple gallery spaces in the United States, including PhotoFest, Houston, and has been published in the Wall Street Journal, TIME, PDN magazine, Saplings Magazine, B&T Australia, and has sold her work to private clients around the world. Moreover, Carolyn’s iPhoneography has been selected and featured in various competitions including the iPhone Photography Awards (IPPA) and Mobiography Magazine while her writing has been featured in ADDitude Magazine, Business Insider, and Cultural Weekly.
