I am 72 years old, married, and have an adult daughter and a grandchild. My career as a teacher and headteacher came to an end in 2018. Heilbronn in Baden-Württemberg is my home town, which is surrounded by beautiful vineyards. The city offers its residents a high quality of life and was awarded the title of ‘Green Capital’ in 2026. For several years now, I have been running the local photography club and try to encourage the exchange of photographic experiences, techniques and digital skills. Membership of the photography club has greatly influenced my own skills, and I can only recommend joining such an inspiring community.
Today, photography has almost become a profession for me, as I spend so much time on this hobby, which I have been pursuing with increasing intensity since 2012. During my working life, I didn’t have much time for photography. But since retiring, I have been engaged in photography almost every day. I enjoy capturing scenes from my immediate surroundings, my home town of Heilbronn, as well as from major cities such as Berlin or Frankfurt. At home, I experiment with the same intensity using the digital tools of my image editing software.
A technically flawless and perfect representation that objectively corresponds to reality is the aspect of photography I am constantly working on. The other aspect of photography – and one that, in my opinion, is becoming increasingly important – is conveying one’s own subjective perception through the subsequent editing of the composition.
My photographic focus is on graphic photography and architecture. Minimalism is also an important theme for me. I have been influenced in this by Professor Harald Mante.
Last year, I won a competition held as part of the Oberstdorf Photo Summit. Over 900 of my best photographs can be found in the 1x.com gallery. A good third of them have won awards. The DVF awarded me the title of ‘DVF Artist’.
